TITLE: Collapsing Groups PRODUCT: Improv for Windows 2.1 CHAPTER: 03-Working with Item Groups BOOK: Improv Handbook DATE: 01/06/94 FAX NUMBER: 10225 Collapsing Groups If a group has a summary item, you can collapse the group to display only its name and summary item. The summary item must be one that you added using the Worksheet Add Group Summary command or that Improv added automatically when you created the group. If you manually wrote the formula using a Group function, you cannot collapse the group. When you collapse a group, Improv hides all of the items that go into the group summary calculation. A dashed vertical line called an item marker appears next to the name of the collapsed group. Collapsing a group does not affect worksheet data. It affects only the display of the data in the current view. This means that you can collapse groups in one view to show a top-level summary or to hide sensitive data in a printed report, yet keep all of the items visible in other views of the worksheet. You can expand the group at any time to display all of its items. The following illustrations show the group Actual to Plan collapsed so only its summary item, Variance, is visible. Notice that formula 7, which calculates values for the summary item, is not affected when you collapse the group. Before collapsing a group [ILLU] After collapsing the group Actual to Plan: [ILLU] Finding Out More: For more information on collapsing and expanding groups, see Chapter 9, "Creating Dynamic Views of a Worksheet." To collapse a group: 1. Select a group containing a summary item that you added using the Worksheet Add Group Summary command or that Improv added automatically. Improv highlights the group name and its associated cells. 2. Choose Worksheet Collapse Group. Improv collapses the group so only the summary item is visible and displays an item marker next to the group name. Tip : If the group doesn't collapse when you choose Worksheet Collapse Group, the item that looks like a summary item was probably added to the group manually. Delete the manually entered item and the formula that refers to it, and use the Worksheet Add Group Summary command to add a summary item. Then collapse the group. To expand a group: 1. Select the group you want to expand. 2. Choose Worksheet Expand Group. Improv displays the collapsed items. To hide or display item markers: 1. Make a selection in the data pane. 2. Do one of the following: Click the InfoBox button on the status bar. Choose Worksheet Settings. 3. If necessary, click the button at the top of the Style panel to display the View settings. 4.
